Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP

Member of Parliament for Maldon

David Amess Children’s Parliament

Last week, Sir John attended the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament election at Collingwood Primary School, joining Councillor Bob Massey, Mayor of South Woodham Ferrers, and Anna Firth, Founding Patron of the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament.

During the visit, Sir John met pupils taking part in the Children’s Parliament election and present certificates to the successful candidates. He welcomed the initiative, which is taking place in schools across Essex, and highlighted its role in encouraging young people to engage with democracy and public life.

Sir John said: “I am delighted that elections are being held in schools across Essex and, in due course, nationwide. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the children and to be able to present the winners with their certificates. David Amess would have been thrilled that his legacy is being preserved in this way, and I hope that we will be able to host the Children’s Parliament in Westminster.”
