I have, quite understandably, received a lot of constituent correspondence in relation to illegal immigration.
I share the serious concerns about the constant flow of people arriving illegally by small boats and the strain this places on our communities, public services, and taxpayers. It is deeply frustrating that those entering illegally are often accommodated in hotels, provided with financial support, and given other assistance, while law-abiding citizens like my constituents continue to meet their obligations.
It is particularly alarming that, in just one year, the new Labour Government has not only failed to get to grips with this issue but that the situation has worsened. The steady increase in arrivals highlights Labour’s lack of decisive action on border control and immigration enforcement. Too often, single adult men who are not fleeing genuine danger are being prioritised over the protection of British communities and taxpayers.
This is a failure of government leadership. Labour must take urgent action to stop illegal crossings, ensure swift removals, and restore confidence in our immigration system. The public rightly expects that those who enter the country unlawfully are held accountable and that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.
I will continue to press the Government to take immediate and effective measures to address this crisis and will make sure that the concerns of my constituents are passed directly to the relevant Ministers.
