Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, said:
“I am pleased to learn that three sports clubs in the Maldon area are set to benefit from funding as part of the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme for 2024/25. The programme is investing £125 million across the UK this financial year to improve essential sports facilities, ensuring communities have access to high-quality pitches and supporting increased participation among under-represented groups.
The programme, building on the previous Government’s investments aims to make facility improvements that support local sports by focusing on areas in need. In Maldon, several local projects have received grant awards to upgrade infrastructure and enhance sporting opportunities.
The funding allocations in the Maldon constituency include:
- Wickford & Runwell United FC at Runwell Park: project aimed at upgrading goalposts, has a total cost of £2,964, with a grant award of £2,223.
- Maldon Saints YFC at Promenade Park: also a project focused on goalposts improvements, has a total cost of £7,800 and has received a grant award of £2,340.
- Southminster United FC at King George V Playing Field: project set to upgrade floodlights, totals £4,980 in cost and is receiving a grant award of £3,730.
