{"id":484,"date":"2018-01-16T20:22:53","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T20:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test.johnwhittingdale.co.uk\/?p=484"},"modified":"2021-08-23T11:33:26","modified_gmt":"2021-08-23T11:33:26","slug":"john-whittingdale-backs-british-farming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=484","title":{"rendered":"John Whittingdale backs British farming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Whittingdale has recognised the vital role that Maldon arable and dairy farmers are contributing to the local and national economy, after attending an event in Westminster this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Farming in East Anglia region contributes \u00a31.25 billion to the local economy and provides 41,167 jobs \u2013 this is on top of the safe, affordable food farmers produce and British countryside they maintain.<\/p>\n<p>The beer and cheese tasting event at The House of Commons was held by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Beer and the National Farmers\u2019 Union (NFU) to highlight the importance of two of our great national products \u2013 beer and cheese.<\/p>\n<p>The UK produces over 700 cheeses \u2013 more than in France. The total value of cheese sold in the UK in 2016 was \u00a32.75 billion with cheese consumed in 95% of households.
