Responding to the Government\u2019s statement on new Nuclear Investment on Tuesday 10th<\/sup> June, Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, sought to establish the Government’s current position on the possibility of a new nuclear power station at Bradwell-on-Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the statement, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, set out the Government\u2019s plans to invest in nuclear power by committing \u00a314.2\u202fbillion for the construction of Sizewell C, over \u00a32.5\u202fbillion for small modular reactors (SMRs), and an additional \u00a32.5\u202fbillion for fusion research. He also stated the Government\u2019s ambition to facilitate private-led advanced nuclear projects \u2013 advanced modular reactors and SMRs – in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir John said: I welcome the Government\u2019s commitment to proceed with new nuclear development which is essential for the UK\u2019s energy security and to reduce carbon emissions from conventional generation. Bradwell has a long connection with nuclear power generation and was one of the Government\u2019s designated sites for new nuclear investment. As the Secretary of State confirmed, it remains a good location and I certainly intend to take up his offer to discuss this with him and his officials\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
