{"id":4507,"date":"2025-06-10T14:27:40","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T14:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4507"},"modified":"2026-02-17T20:52:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:52:48","slug":"statement-on-nuclear-investment-and-what-it-means-for-bradwell-on-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4507","title":{"rendered":"Statement\u00a0on Nuclear Investment and what it means for Bradwell-on-Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Responding to the Government\u2019s statement on new Nuclear Investment on Tuesday 10<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June,&nbsp;Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, sought to establish the Government&#8217;s current position on&nbsp;the possibility of a new&nbsp;nuclear power station&nbsp;at&nbsp;Bradwell-on-Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the statement, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, set out the Government\u2019s plans to&nbsp;invest in nuclear power by committing \u00a314.2\u202fbillion for the construction of Sizewell C, over \u00a32.5\u202fbillion for small modular reactors (SMRs), and an additional \u00a32.5\u202fbillion for fusion research.&nbsp;He also stated the Government\u2019s ambition to facilitate private-led advanced nuclear projects \u2013 advanced modular reactors and SMRs &#8211; in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir John said: I welcome the Government\u2019s commitment to proceed with new nuclear development which is essential for the UK\u2019s energy security and to reduce carbon emissions from conventional generation. Bradwell has a long connection with nuclear power generation and was one of the Government\u2019s designated sites for new nuclear investment.
