{"id":4486,"date":"2025-05-20T13:11:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T13:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4486"},"modified":"2026-02-17T20:53:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:53:39","slug":"crime-and-policing-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4486","title":{"rendered":"Crime and Policing Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Many people have got in touch to express their views on certain amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill regarding the issue of abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have made my views clear on this for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp; I am not &#8220;anti&nbsp;abortion&#8221; as I believe that there are circumstances when it is right to assist a woman terminate and unwanted pregnancy.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, it is not something which I believe should be entered into lightly as the damage done to the mental health of the mother can be significant.&nbsp;&nbsp;The law as it stands is, in my view, allows for reasonable access to&nbsp;abortion&nbsp;services and I do not support attempts to further liberalise the laws \u2013 especially via amendments tacked on to other Bills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people have got in touch to express their views on certain amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill regarding the issue of abortion.
