{"id":4020,"date":"2024-11-19T12:29:13","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T12:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4020"},"modified":"2024-11-20T13:14:45","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T13:14:45","slug":"sir-john-whittingdale-mp-supports-farmers-in-maldon-in-their-fight-against-labours-unfair-family-farm-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=4020","title":{"rendered":"Sir John Whittingdale MP supports farmers in Maldon in their fight against Labour&#8217;s unfair Family Farm Tax"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon,\u00a0met with farmers from his constituency\u00a0who had come to Parliament\u00a0as part of the\u00a0NFU&#8217;s Mass Lobby Event in Westminster on Tuesday 19th November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir John raised his concern about the impact of the Government\u2019s decision to restrict Agricultural Property Relief in his speech in the debate immediately following the Budget on 31<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;October:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hansard.parliament.uk\/Commons\/2024-10-31\/debates\/363730DD-7437-4627-95B7-40169A3B7D9B\/IncomeTax(Charge)#contribution-D46C4044-2887-4908-AFC0-A8548345727C\">Income tax (charge) &#8211; Hansard &#8211; UK Parliament<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, he has joined with other MPs in campaigning to have his destructive tax removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir John said: \u201cI am grateful to the 4 farmers from my constituency who have come to Westminster to express their anger at this punitive tax. Like so many, they made clear that unless it is reversed, it will be impossible for them to pass on their farms to the next generation and that they will have to cease farming. This measure will destroy thousands of family farms resulting in a loss of jobs, a reduction in our food security and harm to the countryside and our environment.
