{"id":3913,"date":"2024-10-10T16:03:08","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T16:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=3913"},"modified":"2024-10-31T12:35:51","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T12:35:51","slug":"sir-john-whittingdale-mp-for-maldon-signs-open-letter-to-minister-of-state-for-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=3913","title":{"rendered":"Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, signs open letter to Minister of State for Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, attends Hospice UK&#8217;s pop-up hospice Charity Shop event in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While attending, Sir John signed their open letter to the Minister of State for Care, Stephen Kinnock MP, urging him to provide emergency funding for the charitable hospice sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See below for the open letter text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Minister of State for Care,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are writing to call on you to provide emergency funding for<br>the charitable hospice sector and commit to long-term reform of<br>the sector\u2019s funding model. This is to prevent further cuts to<br>frontline hospice services and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On average, one third of hospice income comes from<br>government with the remaining two thirds raised by fundraising.<br>The funding hospices receive from Integrated Care Boards<br>(ICBs) is also inconsistent and often does not reflect the cost of<br>the services hospices provide on behalf of the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospice sector\u2019s unsustainable funding model has not<br>withstood the cost of living crisis and hospices are reducing<br>services and making frontline staff redundant as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospices can be a key partner in supporting the Government to<br>shift more care into the community.
