{"id":2926,"date":"2023-03-17T12:41:30","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T12:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=2926"},"modified":"2023-03-17T12:41:32","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T12:41:32","slug":"breast-cancer-reception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/?p=2926","title":{"rendered":"Breast Cancer Reception"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sir John Whittingdale attended the reception on International Womens Day, on screenings for breast cancer by the charity <a href=\"https:\/\/breastcancernow.org\/\">Breast Cancer Now.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He learned that a third of all breast cancers in England are found through the national screening programme, and it plays a key part in the early detection of breast cancer, with stage 1 and 2 breast cancer making up 90 per cent of diagnoses made through screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2927\" width=\"728\" height=\"484\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>John said: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;It is very concerning that, in my constituency, only 62.9% attended their breast screening when invited. Whilst this is a similar figure to the rest of England, we should do better.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>It is vital that, if we are to improve cancer outcomes and reduce the number of women living with un-diagnosed breast cancer who are not getting the necessary treatment, that our screening programme sees a higher uptake.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I encourage all my constituents who are invited to make sure they attend&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sir John Whittingdale attended the reception on International Womens Day, on screenings for breast cancer by the charity Breast Cancer Now.
