Just one year ago, this country was in the grip of the biggest recession it had experienced&nbsp;in 300 years and was dealing with the huge, far reaching&nbsp;effects of a&nbsp;global pandemic. With that incredibly challenging set of circumstances&nbsp;in mind, it shows just how successful the Government\u2019s Plan For Jobs has been, as today we are recovering faster than our major competitors, more people are in work, and growth is up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amongst a wide range of measures, I was particularly pleased that the Chancellor announced a reduction in the Universal Credit taper rate, an increase in the National Living Wage to \u00a39.50 an hour, a freeze in fuel duty, as well as cuts to business rates, new tax reliefs, and record spending on infrastructure and R&amp;D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am sure that many will also warmly&nbsp;welcome the Chancellor\u2019s announcement that alcohol duty will be frozen&nbsp;and the system radically reformed&nbsp;to make it simpler, fairer and healthier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Budget and Spending Review delivers&nbsp;a stronger economy, not just for today but into a future where secure national finances will be essential to counter the effects of an uncertain&nbsp;global economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To take a more information about Chancellor&#8217;s announcement, click\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/autumn-budget-and-spending-review-2021-documents\/autumn-budget-and-spending-review-2021-html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johnwhittingdale.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/0d24e020-7239-480d-9262-436ab7c19cf0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2185\" width=\"746\" height=\"746\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I welcome the contents of this year\u2019s Autumn Budget, announced by the Chancellor on 27 October.
